At ONERank, we are constantly preaching the importance of link building to our clients. In order to understand why it is so important, you have to understand a bit about what it is… Link building is just one of the many puzzle pieces to getting your website seen and optimized for SEO. By having a link from one website pointed to your website, and linking to outside websites (not necessarily those linking to you), you help diversify the foundation of the web (word wide web). It is a source of referrals, hyperlinks, and a stamp-of-approval when one website links to another. Link building for the entry level webmaster is a long and tedious, often frustrating, task. You will be bombarded with “get links quick” tools promising the latest and greatest trick to getting you more links, faster, easier and with a single click of your mouse. We’ll explain why 99% of the “submission and linking” tools out there are self-promoting junk later in this article.

FACT: With high quality link building, your website will be seen by more search engines. Being tied in with a high ranking website, which is crawled daily by Google, Yahoo and Bing, your website will be seen as something linked to their reputation and relevancy. When CNN links to Mom & Pop’s Stationery Site, Google will see that link on CNN and almost immediately start crawling through the Mom & Pop website. On the flip side, if you put a link to Mom & Pop’s Stationery on Jim & Joe’s Auto Shop, a business next door to Mom & Pop’s, Google will get around to that link when it searches and crawls through Jim & Joe’s website every 6 months. This is an important factor of any successful business; the better your Links (incoming and outgoing), the better your overall ranking and relevance will be on the Search Engines. You absolutely must spend the time and effort to make your business a success.

Creating good links takes time and for the most part is free of cost, however some places do require a submission fee. When trading links, you are actually paying (in advertising space or property) to have your link on their website and vice versa. Think of your link building strategy to be similar to that of word of mouth advertising. Keep in mind you have to be careful when choosing who you should share links with on the web. You do not want to be associated with a website that does not have the same high standards and integrity as you.

An effective link building plan and strategy is the most important step. Research your keywords, industry, and the top results in the search engine results pages (SERP’s). Dig in and find out where you want to build your links, who they link with, anything related to that website (good or bad) will need to be researched and understood. We find that simply writing down your plan will help keep you focused and on task in the process now and into the future. Link building is a long term investment – similar to a retirement account. Don’t expect it to make a difference overnight. A fair assessment of a high quality link building effort will see results in 3-4 months of putting in consistent effort.

Once you’ve started receiving and giving links, you are just reaching the middle of the journey… It is equally important to make sure that you constantly check on the websites you already share a link with. They can change their site, goals and linking plans at anytime – resulting in positive or negative changes that affect all the websites that link to them, and from them.

At ONERank we offer high quality, targeted and effective Link Building, employing the most ethical practices. We follow natural linking patterns and build quality and relevance for our clients websites. Expect results in as little as 3-4 weeks, or as long as 4-6 months. Either way, the investment is always about the payoff in the end – high quality, relevant links to a high quality website provides a win-win for all involved in the link building project.

Just about every serious Internet Marketer and Webmaster want to drive more traffic to their website. There is a direct connection with being at the top of search engine results (SERP’s) and receiving more and more visitors from that high placement/rank for your keyword or keyword phrase. The question we receive most often, “How do we get to the top of the SERP’s for our keywords?” With a solid foundation of SEO best practices, the one key element, far and above the rest in terms of effect – link building. Link building is the process of getting links pointing to your site from other websites. The more incoming links your site has, the more value and relevance it represents for search engines and their rankings. But it isn’t just that simple. A key is in the quality of those incoming links. There are a few detailed pieces of information missing on exactly how to go about doing this, but you can always give us a call to find out how affordable our Link Building services are for new and existing online businesses.

In this article I’d like to suggest a few of the tools you can use to build quality links to your website:

Articles. Write the articles about the products or services you offer on your website and submit them to article directories. The idea is to include a link or two to your site into every article. Each article will be listed in many directories and has the potential to build thousands of links for you.

Forums. You can search for forums related to your business and participate in discussions. Include a link to your site with your signature and every post you make will become an inbound link. Don’t be too spammy about your intentions or you will get nuked/banned quickly. The more you participate, the more valued you (and your links) become.

Social Bookmarks. A great idea is to bookmark your articles with Social Bookmarking tools. Every time you bookmark an article, you are linking back to your website. You can bookmark the web pages with your articles with popular bookmark sites, for example digg.com and delicious.com, these sites are good for a huge burst in traffic if you write something relevant and interesting. Also, adding social bookmark links to your articles makes it easy for readers to save and share your content.

Web directories. The most powerful link juice comes from a couple of the biggest web directories, Yahoo and DMOZ. I highly suggest spending time to get yourself placement in each. Also, Business.com is a great tool for getting spread out across the web. Yahoo & Business.com both have fees associated with them (annual fee of between $200-400, depending on details). DMOZ is free, but you have to find the right category and editor to get placement. We’ve seen some people try for 6-12 months to get listed in DMOZ, others have gotten placement in less than 3 weeks.

Blogs. An off site blog is a great means for building links and gaining traffic because every post you make is a separate web page. Link to your website and you’ll have some good inbound links. Popular blogging tools can be found at WordPress.com and Blogger.com.

Social Networking. Social networking link building comes when you set up your profile. You’ll make friends and drive traffic to your website. Be sure to indicate exactly what you do, and easy to follow links so people can pass this on to their friends/followers. Sites like Facebook.com, MySpace.com, Twitter.com are good starting points.

Getting started with the above tools will help kick-off any good internet marketing campaign. Just understand there is no need to “trick” the search engines into thinking you are more relevant than you actually are for a specific search result. Stay focused on providing good quality and relevant information on your specific industry or topic, and the link building will occur in a natural progression.

For all your internet marketing, SEO friendly web design & web conversion optimization needs, call ONERank Internet Marketing & SEO: +1 (877) 771-7265 or visit us on the web at: http://www.onerank.com

Increasing Website Traffic Takes Thinking

We often receive phone calls and e-mail from potential clients wondering how much traffic can we send to their website in a week?

While the answer is a definitive – “it depends” – we often worry about the focus of such an inquiry…

Website traffic is a quirky beast… With so many automated tools for generating illegitimate traffic, the market is ripe for people who are simply looking to “increase website traffic” by hiring a company online. I’ve been pitched by many a snake-oil salesman on working with our firm and partnering on website traffic programs, “For as little as $50, we can generate 1,000 visitors a day for your client’s website.” The old adage holds firm: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is…

While there are thousands of different ways to increase web visitors, that which we encourage FORCE our clients to focus on is not just increasing traffic to their website – rather increasing *interested* or *relevant* traffic to their website. And there is a very simple reason why.

Your purpose in online marketing is no longer to show off how many visitors your website stats can show for a monthly basis. Your purpose is to show how your sales grew 15%, month after month, for 12 months straight. By pushing useless, uninterested visitors to your website, you only gain their attention for 4-5 seconds before they move on to another website. This is only an effective tool when it comes to brand building. If there is no interest in your website or business subject matter, why would they stay or take an action?

However simple the following example may be, look for ways you may currently market in the same wasted manners:

A baby product review website wanted to find a way for us to send them at least 1,500 visitors per day, a feat their current “marketing guy” was accomplishing by working with an offshore company. Their budget was roughly $0.04/visitor ($60/day) that they paid to a firm out of Pakistan. So, for $1,800/mo, they were guaranteed to receive 1,500 visitors each and every day for 1 month straight. And guess what, they received about 1,500 visitors each and every day (according to their website statistics). But what did this do to their bottom line in regard to new user sign-ups? Nothing. What about referrals to affiliate links? Nothing. What about direct sales to product listings? Nothing.

What they failed to do was look at the behavior and referral source of these visitors. Within the first 20 minute phone call we had with their CEO, CMO and current “marketing guy”, we identified an astounding 98.7% bounce rate. Meaning that 98.7% of the visitors landing on their website had no further interest in finding anything else out (information, products, services, etc) related to their website. This means that 1,480/1,500 people (each and every day) just moved on through their website without even really looking at it. 20 people clicked on something in addition to the main page, which meant they were paying about $90/visitor (cost per lead) to take part in their website.

We target a different approach to growing website traffic both organically and strategically. Using various PPC (pay per click) networks, we can hone in on the most effective keywords & client demographic – those that are *interested* and those that want to *buy* or participate in a community forum. Once we’ve identified the best of the best, we build our marketing campaign around the identified focal points.

We were able to take the existing website, without making any significant changes to design, navigation, etc, and boost conversion rates by 10% within the first 2 weeks. We sought targeted and relevant traffic, for those interested in the services and products, causing the first real boost in marketing and acquisition that they had seen in over 6 months.

Here’s some basics for increasing website traffic:

Keep fresh and relevant content in your site. Blog, Twitter, Facebook, Social Media, articles, How-To, and anything else that keeps you updating your website with relevant and interesting content

Make it known. Use a service such as Ping.fm to get the news out about your blog or content posting

Make it social and easily linked. Use a tool like Sociable or Digg, Sphinn, Delicious, etc.

Submit your website to Search Engine Sitemap services (Google Sitemap, Bing Sitemap, etc)

Ask for links back to your site (make it easy for people to link to you – provide HTML code, anchor text, link URLs)

Submit to directories (Yahoo, Google, Ask.com, Dmoz, etc)

Ensure proper HTML tags are present and relevant on each and every page

The program works when people put aside the “quick fix” mentality and understand that online marketing is a science, as well as an art. By carefully crafting a well thought out and thorough marketing plan, increasing website traffic will directly correlate with an increase in revenue (if that is your focus). Whatever the bottom line goal, don’t forget to look into the details before you jump into contract. Price isn’t always the determining factor to isolate dollar-for-dollar value.

For all your internet marketing, SEO friendly web design & web conversion optimization needs, call ONERank Internet Marketing & SEO: +1 (877) 771-7265 or visit us on the web at: http://www.onerank.com

Narrow Minds = Narrow Focus" alt=" Do Not Lose Sight! Narrow Minds = Narrow Focus" />

Don’t get stuck thinking the biggest market share in search engine searches will equal the biggest market share for marketing for your specific search term or product/service.

If you look at the narrow focus, you see Google represents 70% market share of all internet searches. What this means is that 70% of the aggregated searches in the USA are fed through Google. This doesn’t mean that 70% of YOUR TARGET CLIENT searches are fed through Google. Perhaps the focus of your product/service doesn’t even exist on Google. Stay with me, it all comes together soon.

You may be surprised to find out that most people that buy Yellow Handled Scissors (your #1 product) despise Google. It is a known fact that Yellow Handled Scissor lovers want to use Yahoo because they both start with the letter “Y”. There is 1 guy out of every 100 that tries to search on Google for Yellow Handled Scissors – but he has no money to spend, he just likes to look at the pretty pictures and fancy words.

Amazingly enough, you would be missing out on 100% of the sales of Yellow Handled Scissors if you only marketed on Google AdWords PPC. Yahoo represents 99% of Yellow Handled Scissor searches. So where should you spend your money? Google or Yahoo?

Yahoo – of course. You should want to convert 10% of Yellow Handled Scissor searches into a sale, rather than 0% of Yellow Handled Scissor searches – right?

But you ask, I want to get 100% of all Yellow Handled Scissor searches to visit my site. But here is where it makes the most sense (as if it already hasn’t)… Google advertising cost of $100/mo to try to get those stragglers, who aren’t using Yahoo, is a complete waste of money. They will never buy, and Yellow Handled Scissor searchers only buy from Yahoo. So rather than throw $1,200/year into the abyss, take $600, go buy some new clothes and take the other $600 and spend it on Yahoo advertising to get more sales.

By limiting your overall view of the market – your market – you lose focus of why we advertise in the first place. Our goal isn’t to only get more people to see us, it is to get more people who will want to buy from us, to see us. The “buy” is the complete call to action that makes it all worthwhile.

Focus on the specific target client, learn what they want and need, give it to them and you will continue to gain market share. Don’t lose sight of the target! Try to get 100% of your target audience into a room and pitch them your product/service. It will always be less hassle, higher conversion, and less overall cost per acquisition for each sale.

Providing a quality SEO project to clients requires pieces of the big puzzle. We focus our efforts on driving traffic that is high quality, targeted and relevant to the subject matter of the website. Without quality, quantity simply cannot provide any consistent ROI for your advertising dollars.

To make a widely read and profitable website it is desirable to have the following elements:

A great domain name

A reliable host

A unique brand backed up by public relations

A strong unique website design

An easily usable website

Compelling copywriting

An advertising budget which improves market awareness and product feedback

You can be successful while lacking any of the above. However, the more of them you practice the more likely you are to be successful.

As always, we are here to help guide you. If you have a simple question that has you unsure if you should or shouldn’t follow someone’s advice, give us a call. We will give you an honest answer every time.

Quality SEO can greatly benefit your website. Would you like to increase your chances of showing up in the organic rankings for all the common keyword searches? By flushing your website with tons of trigger keywords, you will see a ton of new and quality visitor traffic, right? It may… But it also may end up biting you in the rear!

You may have noticed that when searching for specific keywords that several of the results have absolutely nothing to do with your specific topic. As a matter of fact, some of those listed may take you to a completely alternate website than what is shown in the listing.

All of those sites are developed and designed with a single purpose – to get fresh and new visitors to their intended target pages. For some it is all about quantity – not quality. And they will take any and all risk in doing so.

The following tricks and SEO tactics are known as keyword spamming, and you should always avoid them – like the plague:

Automatically generated or automated “doorway” pages

Keyword spamming or loading on a page

Pages crammed with keywords in an unnatural way

Pages that include keywords that are not relevant to your site

Bogus redirected pages

Search Engine (or spider) specific pages and a different one for human readers

Hidden links or hidden text (which is masked by colors that hide them)

Multiple pages with the same content (or very similar)

Misspelled keywords and competitor website names (or brand names)

Link Farms or Free For All (FFA) pages with links to your site

Anything else that is used to “trick” search engine spiders

Pay-Per-Click: Landing pages that have no relevancy to the advertisement

All of these well-known tricks can help bring more “traffic” to your site, but end up getting you into more trouble than playing by the rules.

It becomes a blatant cat & mouse game trying to “outwit” the search engine algorithms. And one that you will typically lose. If you are more careful, following industry best practices (rather than deceit) you will find that more quality is much better than more quantity.

Operators of search engines (such as Google, Yahoo, Ask.com, etc) are constantly patrolling websites and identifying mischievous tactics. Their goal is to provide everyone using their search engine the best & most relevant search results. If you are caught, you can be removed from the listings of that search engine – which hurts. Or worse, you can be banned or blacklisted entirely (by domain name or IP address). If you think, “that isn’t a big deal” than think again. Some people host multiple websites on a single IP address (shared webhosting) and it can penalize other sites on the same IP (if you have more than one of your own websites) or worse yet, other innocent victims that are on the same hosting plan as you.

We strongly urge all of our clients to pay close attention to what tactics they choose to follow. Always use ethical and industry foundation tools and methods to increase your visibility and relevancy in the search engines.

As always, we are here to help guide you. If you have a simple question that has you unsure if you should or shouldn’t follow someone’s advice, give us a call. We will give you an honest answer every time.
